EdTech Centre Wins Smart Nation Award for SUMBER Digital Resource Management System in BiCTA 2024

Brunei Darussalam, July 3, 2024 – EdTech Centre received the prestigious Smart Nation Award in the Education Category of the Brunei ICT Awards (BiCTA) which was recently held. BICTA 2024 commemorated the awards program’s 20th anniversary, maintaining its status as the leading platform for celebrating local excellence and breakthroughs in Information and Communications Technology (ICT). The ceremony, which is under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, recognizes individuals and companies that have demonstrated a significant impact on society and the ICT industry through ground-breaking solutions.

EdTech Centre’s award-winning submission, SUMBER Digital Resource Management System (DRMS), is an extensive online repository of digital educational resources. Designed with user-friendliness in mind, DRMS empowers instructors and students by delivering them with a readily accessible repository of valuable learning materials. AI in Education: Brunei Teachers’ Perspectives and ASEAN Summit Takeaways

On June 8, 2023, the Education Technology Centre hosted sharing sessions on artificial intelligence (AI). The first sharing session was led by YM Cikgu Abdul Walid bin Haji Misli, who discussed the survey results of Brunei teachers’ viewpoints on the application of artificial intelligence in education. The survey was distributed from June 6 to June 12, 2024. The goal of presenting the survey results was to determine the baseline of our current educators’ comprehension and implementation of AI in their teaching and learning. 

The second sharing was by YM Ali Sofian bin Haji Thani, Senior Education Officer from the Department of Curriculum Development, and YM Cikgu Syahrul Bahri bin Haji Ahmad, Education Officer from Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna Secondary School, Cluster 3 on their significant takeaways from the ASEAN Stakeholder Summit on Generaitive AI Education, held at the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on May 14-15, 2024.

19th May 2024, the Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam organized a special event at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien in conjunction with Public Service Day. The event was graced by the presence of the Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Mejar Jeneral (Bersara) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof. During the celebration of Riadah Amal, Education Technology Centre, Ministry of Education had the opportunity to participate showcased various learning programs such as Sumber, MOE TV, and Augmented Reality (AR). These programs aim to promote and publicize existing educational resources to enhance learning experiences for students. In addition, the event aimed to contribute to the vibrant atmosphere of the Bandarku Ceria Program.

On May 4, 2024, the Ministry of Education organized a memorable Majlis Ramah Mesra Sambutan Hari Raya Aidilfitri at Sekolah Rendah Lambak Kanan Jalan 49. The event was graced by the presence of the guest of honor, Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr. Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh.

The celebration featured a range of engaging activities, including quizzes, lucky draws, and singing performances, which added to the festive atmosphere. A variety of food and beverage stalls were set up, offering traditional dishes and drinks from different countries. This cultural element allowed attendees to enjoy and experience diverse cuisines, enhancing the spirit of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

The Majlis Ramah Mesra not only celebrated the joyous occasion but also fostered a sense of community and cultural appreciation among all who attended.

On 2nd May 2024, a group of teachers from Sekolah Menengah Menglait Gadong, led by Haji Huzaimi bin Haji Moksin, visited the Education Technology Centre. The main objective of the visit was to continue the Video-based Learning Resource (VBLR) Project in the TV Unit. During the visit, the teachers were particularly interested in the editing facilities, audio studios, green screen studios, and innovative Augmented Reality (AR) and Interactive Panel technology available at the centre.
The tour concluded with an engaging question and answer session, allowing the teachers to further enhance their understanding of the facilities and technologies available at the Education Technology Centre.
The teachers express the appreciation for the support given by the Education Technology Center in accommodating the visit from Sekolah Menengah Menglait Gadong. They're providing the teaching staff with valuable exposure to the facilities and infrastructure available at the centre, as well as the different video recording options that can enhance their teaching methods.

Unlocking Creativity: Maktab Duli Teachers Explore E-book Creation

14th February 2024 - The Education Technology Centre (EdTech), Ministry of Education, recently held a sharing session at Maktab Duli to introduce educators to the potential of e-books. This program aligns with the Ministry's goal of promoting creative learning environments through the use of technology. The training taught participants how to use the interactive features of e-books in their classrooms. These capabilities give teachers and students a significant advantage over traditional textbooks by allowing them to receive a more immersive learning experiences. The workshop also discussed how e-books might provide new resources based on individual student accomplishment, thereby improving their educational experiences.

The program provided an excellent learning experience for the Maktab Duli teachers, who were quite enthusiastic. Participants actively engaged in discussions regarding practical strategies for incorporating e-books into their courses across disciplines and learning styles. Furthermore, the initiative explored new methods to use e-books for interactive activities, motivating classroom discussions, and formative assessments. EdTech considers that e-books have the potential to enhance education by creating a more engaging and personalized learning environment for all students. The session ended with a discussion about potential e-book applications in the classroom.

On 6th January 2024, we were delighted to welcome a delegation of Maktab Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah's teachers, led by their principal, Dk. Hajah Nooramaliatifah binti Pg. Haji Ahmad. This visit was a fantastic opportunity to present our Education Technology Centre's unique work and discuss new areas for collaboration.

The visit started with a warm welcome in our department's conference room. We provided a detailed summary of our team's involvement at the Centre, including our key activities and long-term goals. This interactive training provided a deeper understanding of our mission and the potential influence on enriching learning experiences. Following the introduction, we went on a guided tour of our department's workspace.

Teachers were especially interested by our editing facilities, audio studios, green screen studios, and innovative Augmented Reality (AR) and Interactive Panel technology. Recognizing this, we explored deeper into these topics, highlighting their significance and potential applications in the classroom. The tour concluded with an interesting question and answer session, during which Maktab Duli PMAMB teachers actively inquired about the use of these technologies. The principal, Dk. Hajah Nooramaliatifah binti Pg. Haji Ahmad, delivered enlightening speech before presenting a token of appreciation to the Education Technology Centre.

This visit gave an excellent opportunity to establish relationships between our institutions and examine approaches for utilizing educational technology to improve learning outcomes for Brunei students.

We had the privilege of facilitating a demonstration on the use of virtual classroom devices at PTE Meragang School. The session brought together the school’s principal and teachers who are directly involved in the virtual classroom project.

As part of our role, we showcased how these devices can be utilized for various activities and in applicable scenarios for remote learning and teaching. The demonstration emphasized the incredible potential of virtual classroom devices to transform the educational experience.

During the interactive sessions, we guided the participants through engaging virtual lessons and seamless collaboration between students and teachers. It was inspiring to witness how these tools can bridge the gap between physical and remote learning environments.

This demonstration was a significant step in the train-the-trainer program, empowering these knowledgeable teachers to share their expertise with their peers. By equipping them with the skills to effectively use virtual classroom devices, we aim to facilitate the broader adoption of remote teaching methodologies throughout the school.

We extend our gratitude to PTE Meragang School for hosting this informative session. The dedication and enthusiasm shown by the principal and teachers involved in the virtual classroom project were truly commendable. We are excited to continue supporting their efforts in shaping the future of education through virtual classroom devices.

Antara agendanya adalah Introduction to MOE Competency Framework, Developing Specialized Competency using AKSM Mode dan juga Developing Job Competency Profile Matrix. Bengkel dijalankan pada 15 – 18 Mac 2023 bertempat di Training Room 1, Pusat Pembelajaran Sepangjang Hayat.
